We value our privacy, and we realize you value yours as well. Because of this, our customer information and mailing lists will not be sold or otherwise released to anyone for any reason, barring coercion by legal officials. You will not receive junk e-mail as a result of purchasing our products.

What personal information do we collect and how do we use it?
1) When you contract to purchase GenSmarts, we collect and store your name, address, email and phone number from the order form you provide in completing the purchase. We do not collect, handle or have access to your credit card information, as that portion of the order process is performed by a separate organization – our payment processor, Vantiv. The information we do collect is used for two purposes:
A) to enable us to verify your identity should you loose your GenSmarts activation name/key, and contact us to resend it to you at a later date
B) to inform you if a new major version of GenSmarts is made available. This has not been a frequent occurance - we have produced two major versions of GenSmarts since the product was introduced in 2003.
RootsMagic.com acts as a reseller of our GenSmarts product, and contracting to purchase from them integrates with our order system such that the above information is collected and used in an identical manner. The information we receive from RootsMagic is limited to only their contracted GenSmarts sale and is one way only – we do not transmit or share any personal information with RootsMagic.
We protect access to personal information with multiple levels of security. Aside from a complex password, access is only allowed by specific known ip addresses. The most sensitive item, your email address, is stored in encrypted format.
We do not share or make this information available to any other organization.
Should you ever desire for us to delete your information, simply email us at support@GenSmarts.com and we will be happy to do so.
2) We collect and maintain the emails of customers who have requested and consented to receiving our support newsletter. The newsletter contains GenSmarts usage tips and techniques. This is only emailed to customers who sign up for it via a double opt-in request – a subscriber has to request that the newsletter be sent and then has to affirm that request via a response to a verification email. We use a third party service, A-ListHosting.com, to use and manage the email list.

3) When you email us a support request, we retain your request, as well as our response for reference, should you contact us again at a later date. Typically the only personal information this would contain would be your email and sometimes your name, though may contain more if you explicity provide it (some customers include their phone number, for example, when asking a question). Should you ever desire for us to delete your request history, simply email us at support@GenSmarts.com and we will be happy to do so. We use a third party service, ZenDesk.com, to use and manage the requests and associated history.
4) As with most all websites, we retain our access logs, which record anonymous information about use of our website – ip address, page served, response size, response time, etc. No personal information is contained or associated with this data. We use it to monitor the general usage, health, performance, and security of the website and to troubleshoot errors.
5) We prefer not to use or require the use of cookies on our website. If we do have occasion to use them, they contain no personal information and simply serve as a temporary way for the website to know which website pages have previously been served.
