Install Failure/Tip

I've received a couple of reports over the last several weeks regarding installation failures. Here's a couple of the descriptions provided by the customers:

Customer #1) "When I insert the cd into my Windows 7 pc I get a window asking if I want to run setup. I answer allow. The installation window pops up. I click the install button, the cd spins up and nothing happens. When I click exit I get a window stating that the program may not have installed correctly. No matter what I do I cannot get GenSmarts to install."

Customer #2) "If I try Watch Demo, or Watch Tutorial, or Install I see the message - Underwood Innovations LLC has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

Customer #3) "When loading up the disk it went to the screen where it showed the install dialog. Clicking on the install it did nothing."

In all cases, the problem turned out to be a Windows setting - the Windows DEP setting had been changed from it's default of "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only" to the more restrictive "Turn on DEP for all programs and services...". GenSmarts is not compatible the more restrictive setting.

To check your DEP settings follow this chain or menus/options:

START... Control Panel...System...Advanced System Settings...Advanced Tab... Performance Settings...Data Execution Prevention tab...

the "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only" option mentioned above should be checked (this is the default setting for windows). If that option is not checked... tick it on, then Apply... close out your windows and reboot. Now, go in and look at that DEP setting again to verify that the change in the setting is still there.

In at least one of the customer reports above, it appears Avast anti-virus may have been what changed/forced the DEP setting from the default, and that the customer had to disable Avast in order to change the DEP setting.
