We had a member of the forum today send out individual messages to several forum members that was obvious spam and had nothing to do with genealogy or GenSmarts. This person was not able to get anyone's email address (the forum protects that) - they simply used the forum to relay a message containing spam. We've since turned off the ability for forum members to send email to each other, so that will prevent this type of annoyance in the future. Sorry for any disruption of your daily activities.

FYI - You may have noticed that spammers have increasingly been targeting discussion forums recently. They have automated mechanisms which go through google looking for forums, then create accounts and posts typically with web links to whatever products they are hawking. This is the first example of a script that I've seen that used a forum messaging feature to communicate their spam, though.
