I have names in My Genealogy Flist list that do not appear on my To Do List. Some of the missing names are my direct ancestors. What do I need to do to have them appear?

All the names from the file you loaded should be there. Send an email to us at support@gensmarts.com with the type of file you're loading (e.g. Family Tree Maker, PAF, Legacy, etc.) and we'll get you some more specific things to check. If you're not using Gedcom, you might try exporting to Gedcom and loading the Gedcom to see if they show up. That would be a clue as to where the problem lies.
Generically, here's a couple of things that you might think about:
For names missing in the My Genealogy File Tab:
a) There's a bug of some sort that causing GenSmarts to skip these people. I don't think we've ever had a bug like this before, but there's always a first...
b) The people are there, but you're not finding them in the list for some reason... here's some things that could cause that:
b1) Perhaps the name came in reversed for some reason(e.g. first name and last name are switched), so that it doesn't appear in the list where you are looking. Try using the SEARCH => on different parts of the name to see if you can find it that way.
b2) Perhaps you've already got something in the SEARCH => field, so the entire list is not displaying
b3) Perhaps you've got more than 32,000 people and you're using Windows 95/98/ME... in that case the list only shows the first 32,000 people. Try using the SEARCH => as in b1) above to find your names.
b4) Perhaps their was something about the name that caused it to come in as UNKNOWN. Take a look at any UNKNOWN's in the list by typing UNKNOWN into the SEARCH => box and seeing if any of the dates or places match with who you're looking for.
c) Perhaps the people you're looking for aren't in the file you're loading (e.g. make sure the name and directory you're loading are what you think they are and that file contains what you think it does)
For names missing in the To Do List Tab:
a) First verify the name you're looking for is in the My Genealogy File tab - if it's not there, it can't be in the To Do List tab.
b) If there are no To Do's displayed at all, or there are lots of people missing, make sure you don't have a filter turned on - simply check the SHOW ALL checkbox in the upper right hand portion of the tab.
c) A simple explanation could be that we simply didn't have any suggestions for this person. This is more likely if the person is born after 1910, or before 1750 - that's the sweet spot for the records we currently have inventoried for Version 1.0.4.
d) Perhaps there are no suggestions because there wasn't enought information known about the person. When you look at the person'
s narrative that's displayed in the My Genealogy File tab, do you see at least one data and one place associated with this person?
e) Perhaps there are not suggestions because the person is associated with a country that we don't have any records on file for yet. Version 1.0.4 has records for the following countries: USA, Canada, England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Australia, and New Zealand.
f) If none of the above seem to fit, copy and paste the person's narrative from the My Genealogy File tab and send it in an email to us at support@gensmarts.com. We'll take a look at it here and let you know if you should be seeing suggestions in you To Do list tab for that person.
