Are future updates free when I buy GenSmarts?

All updates to the major Version number (e.g. Version 1) are free with the purchase. For example, the current registered version is 1.0.1.0. We're working on an update that should go out over the next couple of days, and will likely end up being Version 1.0.2.0. That will be free to all registered users. In the past, and I would expect in the future, we put out new releases like this every 4-8 weeks. If at some point, we add some major new features, we'll bump the Version number (e.g. from 1.9.0.60 to 2.1.1.1), and that would not be automatically free. It might be, but we're reserving the right to charge a small upgrade fee if we feel the extra features warrant it. We want happy customers, and nobody likes to pay for something without getting fair value in return.

FYI - because of the difficulty/complexity of validating previous ownership, we reserve the right to limit new version upgrade discounts to a reasonable "upgrade period", after which, no discount for an upgrade will be available.

Example: Version 2 was released in May of 2007 and we offered a $10 coupon towards the purchase of Version 2 to all existing users (making the "upgrade price" $14.95). We accepted that coupon for up to one year following the release.

FYI - we do have an "automatic" update notification and application in the software that will notify you of updates. Unfortunately, your firewall and anti-virus/spyware programs can often interfere with this process, so you may want to occasionally visit www.GenSmarts.com/versionHistory.html to check manually.
